Summer

Summer is coming. As high school students, we tend to wish all year for Summer. The end of the school year used to be so exciting, but as we get older the end of the school year gets more and more stressful. Final Tests, EOCTs, and that average you magically think will go up to an "A" just because you believe and want it to. School is stressful and as it comes to a close students get excited to be done for two months; to be able to go out and have fun with friends during the day and sleep in superrrrrr late and be able to wear whatever the heck you feel like wearing. BUT, if you have been persuaded or pushed into taking Honors and then AP, you have now entered into a brand new experience of "Summer Break" or "Summer Vacation" as in a break or vacation from SCHOOL! This is sadly not true once you've crossed over. On the other side of this line is not only extra and more accelerated work during those ten months you're in school, but also additional work to do during the "break or vacation" away from school. Now, if you know how to manage your time and have self discipline, then you will not have much trouble with completing the summer work and you will be able to have fun with your friends and family, but if you are lazy and do not contain the qualities mentioned, you will stress and struggle. You must want to learn and improve yourself intellectually.

  1. Come on summer! There is tremendous pressure for AP teachers to assign summer work - it's not that we're all evil to the core. But it's good to do something over the summer so that your brain doesn't turn to mush, and sometimes people have to have their arms twisted to do that helpful work. One day it will all be worth the work and stress and pressure. It gets better. It is our hope (speaking for myself and Ms. Windham) that the summer work will help to prepare you for your year with us and that the experience will be meaningful in and of itself.

You've done a good job this year and the end is in sight. Just hang on a little longer.
